FARLEY, Iowa - Gerald A. Kluesner, 81, of 204 Third Ave. SE, Farley, died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 1:30 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m.

He was born the youngest of 11 children to William and Catherine (Bockenstedt) Kluesner, in Farley. He received his education in the Farley area schools. He married Eileen Maiers on Dec. 29, 1949, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church.

The couple farmed in rural Farley until retiring in 1992. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley, a member of it's Altar and Rosary Society, and served on the Parish council. He also was a member of the Farley Knights of Columbus-Council 2001. Gerald was an avid sports fan, and passionate about the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved playing checkers and cards with his many grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Eileen Kluesner, of Farley; 10 daughters, Connie (Bill) Schueller, Joyce (Bob) Smith, and Gail (Chris) Hefel, all of Farley, Karen (Joe) Spoden and Janet (Steve) Noonan, both of Robins, Deb (Jim) Kennedy and Mary (Dave) Hosch, both of Epworth, Patti (Jim) Trumm, of Hopkinton, Cheryl (Gary) McAndrew, of Peosta, and Kim (Craig) McDermott, of Cedar Rapids; five sons, Rick (Amy) Kluesner, Bill (Heidi) Kluesner and Dr. Todd (Janel) Kluesner, all of Farley, Tim (Shawn) Kluesner, of Peosta, and Terry (Becky) Kluesner, of Hiawatha; 47 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Stella Kluesner, of Peosta, Virginia Kluesner, of Manchester, and Adele Kluesner, of Farley; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Leon (Harriett) Maiers, of Holy Cross, Eddie (Laura) Maiers, Clete (Shirley) Maiers and Al (Pat) Maiers, all of Dubuque, and Norma Maiers, of Holy Cross.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Riley McDermott; seven brothers, Elmer, Cyril, Clarence, Fritz, Ed, Joe and John; three sisters, Bede Freyman, Mary Gotto and Irene Lansing; and a brother-in-law, Wilmer Maiers. A Gerald A. Kluesner Memorial Fund has been established.
