FARLEY, Iowa - Stella Marie Hogan, 82, of Columbus, Mont., formerly of Farley, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at Stillwater Community Hospital, Columbus.

Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Columbus. Memorial services and burial will be held at a later date in Farley. The Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, is in charge of local arrangements.

She was born on July 5, 1924, on the family farm in Dyersville, daughter of Anton and Mary (Heiring) Brunkan. She had five brothers and one sister.

She received her education in the Dyersville area schools.

She married Patrick Hogan on April 7, 1951, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Dyersville. The couple farmed in the rural Farley area, raising two sons.

She moved to Columbus, in 1987, after the death of her husband, to be closer to her son and grandchildren.

Stella was active in St. Mary's Catholic Church, its Altar Society, volunteered with the National Ski Patrol, the Red Cross, Beartooth Museum, Project Hope, Cookie Club, Quilt Club, and the Columbus Garden Club.

She took great pride in her flower garden at her home and the many beautiful quilts she made.

She loved to ski and skied up to the age of 80. She loved spending time with her many friends going to the theater in Billings, and spending time with her son Al and her grandchildren.

Surviving are her son, Al Hogan, of Columbus, and his children, Lance, Shelly and Chuck; two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Dick (Collette) Brunkan, of Milwaukee, Dave (Marion) Brunkan and Bob (Fran) Brunkan, both of Dyersville, and Monsignor Walter Brunkan, of Greene, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Patrick Hogan, on Sept. 7, 1985; a son, Mark Hogan, on Sept. 20, 1970; a sister, Jean Schmaltz; and a brother, Jim (Bernice) Brunkan.

A Stella Marie Hogan Memorial Fund has been established.

Memorials may be sent to any of her brothers and to the Reiff Funeral Home, P.O. Box 99, Farley, Iowa 52046.
