FARLEY, Iowa - Frances Z. Heitz, 84, 24631 Old Highway Road, Farley, died at 4:35 a.m. Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wed-nesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 5 p.m. and a Farley American Legion service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Heitz taught school for many years in the rural country schools and at Western Dubuque schools, retiring in 1984.

She was born on Jan. 2, 1914, in Farley, daughter of Francis and Mary (Jerina) Zalaznik. She married Raphael "Ray" Heitz on May 21, 1935, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley; he died on Oct. 29, 1981.

She received her education in the Epworth and Farley area schools and was a graduate of St. Joseph's in Farley. She also attended the University of Dubuque.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley, and its altar and rosary society.

Surviving are five sons, Gene (Wanda) Heitz, of Aurora, Elmer (Kay) Heitz, Richard Heitz and Matt (Marna) Heitz, all of Farley, and Dr. Julien (Ursula) Heitz, of Nashville, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Dianna) Kirkwood, of Dyersville; 21 grandchildren, Kevin, Alan, Terry, Nathan, Marie, Cindy, Eric, Byron, Kamel, Clayton, Joey, Julia, Theresa, Hannah and Kevin Heitz, Barry and Brian Dahmen, Shona, Kory, Nickie and Kearn Kirkwood; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ed Zalaznik, of Dubuque, John "Kenneth" Zalaznik, of Spencer, and Ernie Zalaznik, of Epworth; and a sister, Mary Tujetsch, of Guttenberg.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Dahmen, on Dec. 31, 1982; her parents; and two brothers, Victor and Cyril.

A Frances Z. Heitz Memorial Fund has been established.
