FARLEY, Iowa -- Lawrence G. "Larry" Healy, 90, of Farley, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Luther Manor, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley, where military rites will be accorded by the Farley American Legion-Post 656. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. A Farley American Legion service will be at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on April 7, 1920, in Placid, son of John and Josephine (Callahan) Healy. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Farley and Loras College in Dubuque. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy.

He married Florence C. Griffin on Jan. 29, 1944, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley; she preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 1996.

Larry was employed for 40 years by Steffen's Insurance in Dubuque and was later a co-owner. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley, a member of the Farley American Legion-Post 656, for which he served as past commander and chaplain, the Farley Knights of Columbus-Council 2001, the Farley Commercial Club for which he served as past secretary, the Dubuque Association of Independent Agents for which he served as past president, the Dubuque Association of Life Underwriters, a charter member of the Farley Park Board, a former member of the Farley City Council and a member of the Farley Industrial Development Board, where he served as secretary. He was a proud member of the Society of 40 men/8 horses Vuiture 632 of Dubuque County. Larry received the governor's award for volunteerism.

Surviving are daughters, Sr. Anne Healy, of Cedar Rapids, and Sr. Marge Healy, of Dubuque; a daughter-in-law, Shirl Healy, of Naperville, Ill.; a grandson, Jason Healy, of Morgantown, W.V.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Healy; a great-grandson, Alex Ressa, of Naperville; a dear friend, Lois Boffeli, of Farley; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Healy, of Farley, and Marie McDermott, of Dubuque.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Healy, on Sept. 16, 1989; brothers, Leonard, James, Emmett and Raymond; and a sister, Katherine Kennedy.
