FARLEY, Iowa -- Catherine M. Griffin, 85, of Farley, died at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of America rosary recited at 4 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1924, in Dyersville, daughter of Frank and Cecelia (Meis) Olberding. She received her education in the Dyersville area rural country schools.

She married James Griffin on Oct. 14, 1946, at St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville; he preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1998.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley, and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas-Presentation Court 1460.

Catherine had a terrific love for music, and she enjoyed dancing, singing and playing the accordion. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her visits with them were one of her greatest delights. She was an example of tolerance, patience and understanding.

Surviving are two sons, Larry (Ruth) Griffin, of Dubuque, and Allan (Colleen) Griffin, of Farley; two daughters, Dianne (Lloyd) McDermott, of Epworth, and Marilyn (Greg) Sicheneder, of Minnetonka, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gerald Olberding, Don (Darlene) Olberding, Delbert (Margie) Olberding and Ray (Gen) Olberding, all of Dyersville; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Olberding, of Dyersville, and Mary Welter, of Epworth; and a brother-in-law, Joe Schlichte, of Dyersville.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Germaine Schlichte and Mercedes Singsank; a brother, Robert Olberding; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Gilbert Singsank, Erma Olberding, Joe and Veronica Griffin, Carl Welter, Florian and Leona Timmer and Bernice Griffin.
