FARLEY, Iowa -- Glen E. "Bud" Gibbs, 87, of 203 Fifth Ave NE, Farley, died at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012, at his home in Farley.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley, where military rites will be accorded by the Farley American Legion Post 656. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where a wake service will be at 4 p.m. The Farley Fire Department will meet at 6:30 p.m., the Farley American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6:45 p.m. and the Farley American Legion will meet at 7 p.m.

He was born on May 12, 1924 in Earlville, son of William and Anna Marie (Klinkner) Gibbs. He was a 1941 graduate of the Earlville High School.

Bud was an Army veteran, having served during World War II in the 4th Infantry Division in the European Theater in Germany from 1944 to 1945.

He was united in marriage to Rosemary Ann Juran on July 31, 1945, at St. Joseph's Church, in Earlville; she preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 1967. The couple farmed in the Earlville area until 1959, at which time they moved to Farley. He also operated a repair shop from 1959 to 1964.

In 1964, Bud was employed by the city of Farley as Superintendent of Public Works and as city marshall later changing to police chief. Bud held this position until his retirement in 1986.

He was united in marriage to Betty Puccio on Oct. 15, 1977, at St. Joseph's Church in Farley; she preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2005.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley, a 66-year member of the Farley American Legion, having served as their commander in 1967, a charter member of the Farley Park Board and the Legion Athletic Committee. He also served as a volunteer on the Farley Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years. He will be fondly remembered as one of the co-founders of the Farley Park, proud service member of the American Legion for 66 years, Farley Babe Ruth Queen Pageant and the good people of Farley he met at his melon and sweet corn stand.

He enjoyed his many years of coon hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren will always remember his jokes and "gag inventions." He will be sadly missed by all, especially his companion dog of 13 years, Bambi.

Surviving are his children, Ronald (Joanne) Gibbs, of Rickardsville, Donna (Charles) Puccio, of Epworth, Danny (Donna) Gibbs, of Farley, James (Donna) Gibbs, of Epworth, Mary Ann (Chuck) Dunne, of Worthington, Julie (Phil) Meyer, of Farley, Jane (fiance, Jeff Weber) Schilling, of Petersburg, Kenneth Gibbs and William Gibbs, both of Dyersville; four step children, Anthony (Kathi) Puccio, of Farley, Walter (Jane) Puccio, of Dubuque, Mary Nell (John) Kertels and Samuel Puccio, both of Farley; 32 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren;

16 stepgrandchildren; 23 stepgreat-grandchildren; four sisters, Virginia Leslein, of Davenport, Lorraine Boffeli, of Manchester, Carol Raithel and Lucille (Albert) Holtz, both of Earlville; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Matilda (Herman) Kloser, of Dubuque, and William (Virginia) Juran, of Holy Cross.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Connie L. Scott; a son-in-law, Raymond Scott; two sisters, Jean Hampton and Margaret Hach; and two brothers, Earl Gibbs and Bill Gibbs.
