EPWORTH, Iowa -- Sherry Louise (Pfab) Gassman, 59, of 807 W. Main St., Epworth, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at home after a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating and the Rev. John P. Ptacek concelebrating. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley, at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service 4 p.m., and the Farley American Legion will meet at 7 p.m.

She was on born July 15, 1949, in Dubuque, daughter of Walter and Marilyn (Hosch) Pfab. She married Thomas Gassman on Jan. 7, 1972, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She was a 1967 graduate of Wahlert High School in Dubuque. She also was a graduate of the University of Dubuque, where she received a teaching degree.

Sherry was employed as a teacher at St. Francis Xavier School in Dyersville.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley. She was the first lay director of the Farley & Epworth CEW Community and served as a past president of the Archdiocese Pastoral Council.

Surviving are her husband, Tom Gassman, of Epworth; four sons, Aaron (Vicki) Gassman, of Dubuque, Adam (Jennifer) Gassman, of Dysart, Alex Gassman, of Epworth, and Andy (Crystal) Gassman, of Elk River, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Christina, Henry, Amalie, Zachary, Lincoln, Isaac and Tayla; her mother, Marilyn Mangino, of Dubuque; a brother, Gary (Roxanne) Pfab, of Dubuque; and a sister, Polly (Gary) Skocelas, of Arlington, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Pfab.
