FARLEY, Iowa - Jack A. "Frosty" Freeze, 80, of Farley, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, with the Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Farley, where military rites will be accorded by the Farley American Legion Post 656. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Freeze owned and operated the Shell Truck Stop and Oasis Cafe in Farley for several years. He then operated Freeze Auto Service, and he and his wife owned and operated Frosty's and Dories' Court 10 Motel, in Farley for several years. Jack also worked at the former Trausch Baking Co. in Dubuque from 1977, until his retirement in 1987.

He was born on May 30, 1922, in Farley, son of George Vernon and Gladys (Krueger) Freeze.

He married Doris M. Otten on Jan. 9, 1943, in Rockford, Ill.; she died on Feb. 1, 1985. On April 29, 1986, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Fox Fern at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley; she died on July 8, 1999.

He received his education in the Farley area schools. He is a World War II veteran. Jack instituted the recycling program in Farley. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, the Farley Commercial Club, and a member of the Farley American Legion Post 656, where he served as past commander. Jack also was a former board member for the Fairview Cemetery Board in Farley.

Surviving are a son, Richard Freeze, of Los Angeles; four daughters, Jacqueline Williams and Jeraldine Langevin, both of Fort Madison, Carol (Jeffrey) Perry, of Farley, and Jenni (Tracy) Smith, of Fort Madison; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Roxanne Smith, on Dec. 8, 1988; and a son-in-law, Harry Williams.

A Jack A. Freeze Memorial Fund has been established.
