FARLEY, Iowa -- Nancy J. Boge, 69, of 13369 Kramer Road, Farley, left us peacefully at 3:35 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Oakcrest Manor, Dyersville.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a prayer service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1940, in Dubuque, daughter of Emmet and Edna (Schmidt) Coulthard. She graduated as the 1957 class valedictorian of Livingston High School and from Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology, Platteville, Wis., in 1961, with a degree in elementary education. Nancy taught in northern Illinois and southwestern Wisconsin throughout the 1960s.

She married Dale Boge on Aug. 21, 1971, and moved to the family farm outside Farley.

In 1971, Nancy received her masters in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She taught in the Western Dubuque school system for two years before being a stay-at-home mom and helping on the family farm for 20 years. Nancy was a volunteer for the Seton Schools library program for many years before returning to work as a substitute teacher until her retirement in 2005.

Nancy's loves were her husband and family, the education of children, books and word puzzles. She treasured her friendships and enjoyed letter writing and phone conversations. In her later years, trips to town for lunch with her husband became one of her favorite activities. Shortly after her retirement, Nancy was afflicted with a rapidly progressing form of Alzheimer's disease.

Surviving are her husband, Dale Boge, of Farley; a daughter, Christine (Karamoko) Boge-Hubbard, of Coralville; two sons, James (Jennifer Woolf) Boge and Mike (Emily Reinert) Boge, both of Farley; five grandchildren, Lillian, Lukas, Joseph, Erik and Jacob; seven siblings, Norma Coulthard, Kathleen Blum and Marjory Curran, all of Plattville, Marian Runde, of Cuba City, Wis., Harold Coulthard and Dale Coulthard, both of Livingston, Wis., and Lawrence Coulthard, of Sun Prairie, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard Coulthard; and a sister, Mary Coulthard, in infancy.
