Mrs. JOHN (Clara Susan George) SCHWENDINGER

Mrs. John Schwendinger, 71, died at the family home in Epworth Saturday morning, after a lingering illness. The body is at the home, from where the funeral will be held to St. Patrick's church, Epworth, at 9:30 Tuesday morning. The Sanner funeral home, Farley, is in charge of arrangements.

As Clara Susan George, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John George, Mrs. Schwendinger was born at Centralia on April 19, 1875. She received her education in the St. John the Baptist school, Centralia, and later assisted her father in operating a general store. She was married to George J. Steckel on February 17, 1903. He died March 30, 1907 and on November 22, 1910, she was married to John Schwendinger.

She was a member of St. Patrick's church, Epworth and for many years was a promoter of the League of the Sacred Heart and member of St. Patrick's guild.

Surviving are her husband; three sons, Leo F. Schwendinger, Cedar Rapids, Henry Schwendinger, San Bernardino, Calif. and John W. Schwendinger, at home; one step daughter, Mrs. Ray (Marie) Hogan, Worthington; two stepson, Alphonse Schwendinger, Dubuque, and Herman Schwendinger, at home; 20 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Bahl and Mrs. Peter Erschen, both of Dubuque; two brothers, Peter C. George, Farley and Henry A. George, Dyersville, a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides her first husband, Mrs. Schwendinger was preceded in death by a son, George Steckel, Jr., two sisters and one brother.
