Schwendinger dead at 102
Services for Joseph A. Schwendinger, 102, of Heritage Manor will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Peosta, Iowa. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call until 10 p.m. Tuesday at Behr's, where the Scripture Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Schwendinger, a former Rickardsville, Iowa, farmer, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday at Heritage Manor. He was born in Epworth, Iowa, and at the age of 93 was active as a cattle buyer. He was the oldest cattle buyer in the United States and at the age of 93 qualified for a driver's license. His wife, the former Mary McCann, died June 8, 1952.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Marie) Bahl of Lancaster, Wis., and Mrs. Lester (Lucille) Bahl of Asbury, Iowa; two sons, Leo J. of Dubuque and Paul J. of Peosta; 26 grandchildren, 68 great great** grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, and a sister, Mrs. Carrie George of East Dubuque.
