PEOSTA, Iowa -- Paul J. Schwendinger, 73, of Peosta died at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 1989, at home, following a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John The Baptist Church in Peosta. Burial will be in the St. John The Baptist Cemetery in Centralia where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion John White Post 650 of Epworth. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where the parish wake service will be said at 7 p.m.

Mr. Schwendinger worked as an electrician at the John Deere Dubuque Works for 30 years before retirement.

He was born on June 24, 1916 in Rickardsville, son of Joseph and Mayme (McCann) Schwendinger. He married Eleanor Becker on Sept. 23, 1937 at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque; she survives.

He was a World War II army veteran and was a member of St. John The Baptist Church and its holy name society.

Also surviving are five daughters, Kathleen Schwendinger of Spring Dale, Ark., Mrs. Merlin (Carol) Timmerman of Galena, Ill., Mrs. Rudy (Pat) Weber of Sherrill, Mrs. LaVerne (Josephine) Fehring of Carroll and Mrs. Dennis (Donna) Gotto of Epworth; six sons, Paul T. Schwendinger of Guttenberg, James Schwendinger of Little Falls, Minn., Ronald Schwendinger of Dubuque, Anthony Schwendinger of Waukon, Robert Schwendinger of Epworth and Joseph Schwendinger of Marquette; 47 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Bahl of Lancaster and Mrs. Lucille Bahl of Asbury.
