PEORIA, IL - John "Jack" Kagel, 84, of Peoria died at 11:10 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at his home in Peoria, Ill.

He was born on Dec. 20, 1925, in Peoria, the son of Bernard and Elsie Brocklehurst Kagel. He married Grace Ament on May 19, 1973, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife; his sister, Shirley Happs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Jack attended school in the Peoria area before entering the U.S. Navy on May 14, 1944.

He was a member of Laborers Union Local 165 here in Peoria and worked at various construction sites.

Jack enjoyed gardening, fishing and watching his favorite team, the Cubs, on television.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and an inurnment will be held at a later date in St. Paul's Cemetery in Worthington, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
