WORTHINGTON, Iowa -- Genevieve M. Johannsen, 92, of Dunwoody, Ga., formerly of Worthington, and Davenport, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at the North East Atlanta Health & Rehab Center, Atlanta.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Worthington, where friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, in charge of arrangements.

She was born and raised in Worthington, daughter of John and Margaret (Bertling) Ressler. She married Lester Johannsen, in 1972; he preceded her in death July 8, 1999.

Genevieve taught school in and around Dubuque as a young woman. After moving to Davenport in 1954, she owned and operated the Rhythm and Thyme Preschool until 1972. She and Lester then moved to Dixon, Ill.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Parents Without Partners, in Davenport, from 1954 to 1972, St. James Parish in Toronto, Iowa, the Women of the Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary in Dixon until 2002, when she moved to Dunwoody to be near her family.

Surviving are daughters, Julia (Colin) Scott, of Kennesaw, Ga., Rosemary (William Ray) Hendriks, of Davenport, and Kathleen (Richard) Smith, of Alpharetta, Ga.; a sister, Mildred Schneider, of Appleton, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Paul Johnson, of Lisle, Ill.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Bonnie Johnson; four brothers, Jacob, Arthur, Elmer and Stephen; and three sisters, Rose White, Florence White and Sister Rosina Ressler, O.S.F.
