NEW VIENNA, Iowa - Patricia A. Gassmann, 73, of New Vienna, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, as a result of an automobile accident.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 27, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John O'Conner officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 26, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 7 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1935, in Worthington, daughter of Ray J. and Marie I. (Schwendinger) Hogan. She married Marvin R. Gassmann on Jan. 31, 1953, in Worthington. Together, they farmed and raised their family just south of New Vienna.

Pat loved taking care of her patients and working with her co-workers as a certified nursing assistant at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, for 34 years. She enjoyed gardening and making rosaries for others. Pat's secret passion was fishing.

Surviving are her husband, Marvin; 12 children, Steve (Betty), of Indianola, Mickey (Mark) Wagner, of Earlville, Wayne (Geralyn), of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jackie (Mike) Milz and Jim (Wendy), both of Dyersville, Pam (Karl) Ertl, of Estes Park, Colo., Joan (Chad) Colston, of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Tammy), of Indianola, Marvin, Jr., of Asbury, Joseph (Yessica), of Winterset, Kevin (Amy), of Holy Cross and Tom "T.J." (Nikki), of Estes Park; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Hogan, of Arizona, and Robert Hogan, of Worthington; two sisters, Donna Wolfe, of Worthington and Joyce Digmann, of Platteville, Wis.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyle Gassmann, of Dubuque, Betty Gotto, of Bankston, Gladys Knepper, of Dyersville, Mary Agnes (James) Schnier, of Bellevue, Connie Lueck, of Mineral Point, Wis., LeRoy (Marge) Gassmann, of Asbury, Robert (Bev) Gassmann, of Opelousas, La., Kenneth Gassmann, of Bullhead City, Ariz., Gerald Gassmann, of Davenport, Betty Hermsen Gassmann and Robert Fitzgerald, both of Dyersville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Al and Leonette Gassmann; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Fitzgerald and Eileen Besler; and a brother-in-law, John Gassmann,
