NEW VIENNA, Iowa -- Marvin R. Gassmann, 76, of New Vienna, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at his daughter's home in Earlville.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 30, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 5 p.m., the Dyersville Fire Department will gather at 6 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1934, in Holy Cross, son of Aloysious and Leonette (Kluesner) Gassmann.

He married Patricia Hogan on Jan. 31, 1953, in Worthington; she preceded him in death. Together they farmed and raised their family just south of New Vienna.

Marv owned and operated Gassmann Realty for more than 30 years. He also worked for Mormons Feeds and Archer Oil.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree and past Grand Knight.

Surviving are his 12 children, Steve (Betty), of Indianola, Mickey (Mark) Wagner, of Earlville, Wayne (Geralyn), of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jackie (Mike) Milz and Jim (Wendy), both of Dyersville, Pam (Karl) Ertl, of Estes Park, Colo., Joan (Chad) Colston, of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Tammy), of Indianola, Marvin Jr., of Holy Cross, Joseph (Yessica), of Winterset, Kevin (Amy), of Holy Cross, and Tom "T.J." (Nikki), of Estes Park, Colo.; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine siblings, Lyle Gassmann, of Dubuque, Betty Gotto, of Bankston, Gladys Knepper, of Dyersville, Mary Agnes (James) Schnier, of Bellevue, Connie Lueck, of Mineral Point, Wis., LeRoy (Marge) Gassmann, of Asbury, Robert (Bev) Gassmann, of Opelousas, La., Kenneth Gassmann, of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Gerald Gassmann, of Davenport, brothers-in-law, Robert Fitzgerald, of Dyersville, James Hogan, of Arizona, and Robert Hogan, of Worthington; and sisters-in-law, Betty Hermsen Gassmann, of Dyersville, Donna Wolfe, of Worthington, and Joyce Digmann, of Platteville, Wis.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Ray and Marie Hogan; two sisters, Sylvia Fitzgerald and Eileen Besler; and a brother, John Gassmann.
