FARLEY, Iowa - LeVern L. "Bud" Funke, 79, of 307 Second Ave. SW, Farley, died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with Monsignor Richard Funke officiating and the Rev. Dennis Cain concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m., the Farley Fire Department will meet at 7 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Funke was employed at REC (Rural Electric Co.) in Anamosa (Iowa) for 40 years until his retirement.

He was born on Oct. 11, 1925, in Worthington, son of Lawrence and Emma (Krogman) Funke. He married Irene Till on June 30, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley.

He received his education in the rural country schools and St. Paul's School in Worthington.

Bud was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley, and its Altar and Rosary Society. He also was a member of the Farley Knights of Columbus Council 2001 and a retired member of the Farley Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as mayor and councilman for the city of Farley for several years.

Surviving are his wife, Irene Funke, of Farley; three children, Bill (Janice) Funke, of Dubuque, Richard (Mary Jane) Funke, of Streator, Ill., and Janet (Steve) Wilgenbusch, of Antioch, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, a great-grandchild; a step great-grandchild; two brothers, Eldon (Kay) Funke, of Monticello, and Marvin (Rose Lee) Funke, of Dyersville; four sisters, Erma Hess, of Cascade, Lucille (Joe) Kelchen, of Farley, and Grace Link and Norma (Lawrence) Link, both of Dyersville; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Funke, of Worthington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Funke, on June 10, 1952; a sister, Deloras Sabers; two brothers, Gilbert and Lawrence Donald Funke; three brothers-in-law, Gib Link, Ray Hess and Clarence Sabers; and a sister-in-law, Mary Funke.

In lieu of flowers, a LeVern L. Funke Memorial Fund has been established.

The family of Bud would like to thank the staff of ManorCare Health Services, Hospice of Dubuque and all their friends and neighbors for all their kindness and support.
