GUTTENBERG, Iowa -- Robert F. Frasher Sr., 89, of Guttenberg, formerly of Worthington, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

A celebration of life ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Worthington Memorial Hall, with the Rev. Keith Amunson officiating. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at the hall, where there will be a Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 656 prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington, where military rites will be accorded by Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 656. The Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1921, in Anamosa, son of Edward and Angelina (McGovern) Frasher. He married Viola Dehner on May 15, 1946, in Dubuque; she preceded him in death in 2008.

Early in their marriage, they made their home in Worthington where for several years they operated Bob and Vi's Tavern. He was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works until retirement in 1983.

Bob served his country in the Army Air Corps in the 2nd Photomapping Squadron from 1941 to 1945, and was a life member of the Scherrman Peterson American Legion Post 656.

Surviving are three sons, Bob (Sally), of Epworth, Philip (Darlene) and Patrick (Sue Ann), both of Worthington; three daughters, Janine (life partner, Gary Trimble) Frasher, of Polk City, Joan (Jack) Drees, of Colesburg and Janet Frasher, of Wheaton, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Rita (Joseph) Beck and Margaret Ann (Bernie) Ernzen, both of Dubuque, and Helen Dehner, of Alton; and a brother-in-law, George (Bernadine) Dehner, of Clinton.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary, in 1970, during the Vietnam War; a sister, Margaret Ann (Lawrence) Otten; a brother, Edward "Barney" (Marguerite) Frasher; in-laws, Irene (Francis) Till, Mary (Walter) Knepper, Dorothy (Robert) Cool, Florence Dehner, in infancy and Edward Dehner.
