WORTHINGTON, Iowa - Kathleen "Kay" Hess, 80, of Worthington, died of an apparent heart attack Sunday, Dec. 29, 1996, at the Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington, Ill.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Hess was a homemaker.

She was born on Feb. 16, 1916, daughter of Nicholas and Apollonia (Sauser) Wolfe. She married Ambrose Hess on May 1, 1941, in Worthington.

She loved gardening and sports. She also loved her family and she loved life. Grandma Kay will be missed by many.

Surviving are a son, Ed (Vanette) Hess, of Worthington; two daughters, Mary (Jim) Spoden and Judy (Virgil) Johnson, of both of Worthington; six grandchildren, Steve (Ann) Spoden, Scott (Lisa) Spoden, Bob (Cindy) Hess, Vicki (Chris) Funke and Melanie and Aaron Johnson; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Hess; three great-grandsons, Tanner and Maxwell Spoden and Adam Funke; two sisters, Evelyn (Jim) Graff, of Oelwein, and Violet (Don) Leytem, of Cascade; three brothers, Ted (Donna) Wolfe, of Worthington, Nick (Rose) Wolfe, of Cascade, and Robert (Pat) Wolfe, of Columbus, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 13, 1995; her parents; and a brother, Richard.
