HOPKINTON, Iowa - Clarence Heims, 84, of Hopkinton, died Sunday evening, Nov. 3, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton, with the Rev. John Kremer officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton, where there will be a parish scripture service at 8 p.m.

He was born on June 28, 1918, near Worthington, son of Henry and Mary Francis (Lux) Heims. He received his education in the rural schools near his home.

He started farming with his brother, Ray, near Worthington. He married Helen Besler on Dec. 27, 1939, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. The couple farmed in the Worthington, Sand Springs and Hopkinton areas. They purchased their farm west of Hopkinton in 1965. Mrs. Heims preceded him in death on March 13, 1999.

Surviving are three children, Jerome (Dianne) Heims, of Ryan, and Lloyd (Mary) Heims and Darlene Marugg, both of Monticello; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Elenz, of Manchester.

He also was preceded in death by his parents: two sisters, Katie and Ann; five brothers, William, Harry, George, Frank and Ray; and a great-granddaughter, Angela.

A Clarence Heims Memorial Fund has been established.
