Thomas J. Trilk, 87, of Dubuque quietly passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at his home.

According to his wishes there will be no public service or visitation. Private family burial with military honors will be at Linwood Cemetery at a later date. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd is in charge of arrangements.

His gregarious personality and laugh will be missed.

Tom was born on July 5, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Carl “Kelly” and Della O’tille (Herold) Trilk. He grew up attending Audubon, Jefferson and Senior High Schools.

He served in the US Army Infantry from 1944 to 1946. He was assigned to the 9th and 71st Divisions and participated in the Rhineland Campaign and the Occupation of Post War Germany.

On November 29, 1947 he married Lois Gertrude Frommelt. They spent the next 66 years at each others side, in Dubuque.

Tom was a pressman for the Telegraph Herald and later for the William C. Brown Publishing Co. as foreman for 17 years. He then attended the United Electronics Laboratories School of Electronics. He worked in the Tri-State area as an Electronics Technician, Employed by the 3M Company. He retired in 1987, after 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, two sons, Keith (Julie) Trilk, of Portland, Oregon, Cliff Trilk, of Dubuque, and a daughter-in-law Darlene Palm-Trilk, of Dubuque. Seven grandchildren, Rob (Carissa) Trilk, of Peosta, Iowa, Erik (Heather) Trilk, of Marion, Iowa, Jennifer Trilk, of Greenville, South Carolina, Ryan (Natasha) Trilk, of Dubuque, Kyle Trilk, of Seattle, Washington, Eric Nielsen, of Minneapolis, Christopher Nielsen, of Kansas City, Missouri, and nine great grandchildren, to carry on.

He was preceded in death by his son Robert David Trilk Sr., and his daughter-in-law Andrea Barbara Hayslett-Trilk.

Memorials may be sent to the Dubuque Rescue Mission or Hospice of Dubuque.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, good friends, and especially his nephew Paul Macko and Diane Hanson for all your help, love and support.
