DELORES M. TIGGES
Delores M. Tigges, age 87, of Dubuque, was called home by the angels at 9:50 a.m., on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1425 Iowa Street, with Rev. Eugene C. Kutsch officiating. To celebrate Delores' life, friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Delores was born on September 2, 1926, in Luxemburg, Iowa, daughter of Michael and Sophia (Conrad) Ries. She grew up on the farm and later became a long time Dubuque resident. In her younger days, she met her future husband, Oscar Leo Tigges, Jr., and they dated while dancing on roller skates. Delores and Oscar were married on November 4, 1950, in Dyersville, Iowa. He preceded her in death in February of 1986. Delores worked as an avid housekeeper in several private homes in the Dubuque area for over 30 years. In her free time she enjoyed cooking, dancing, flowers, gardening and caring for her special needs grandson, Jamie. Delores loved polka/country western music. One of her favorite activities was visiting "Reflections in the Park" Christmas lights each year. Delores was a wonderful wife, incredible mom and homemaker, and loving grandmother who deeply cherished her family. Delores dearly loved her 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Delores and her family were long time members of St. Mary's Catholic Church prior to joining St. Patrick's Church. Her faith was always so very important to Delores as well as her family.
Delores is survived by her children, Dennis (Peggy) Tigges, Alvarado, TX, Marianne (Jay) Imhof, Dubuque, IA., Peggy (Al) Garcia, Lakewood, CO, Donna Tigges, Elizabeth, IL, Connie (Jeff) Shanks, North Liberty, IA, Rosie Thill, Dubuque, IA, 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Annie Ries, Dyersville, IA.
Delores was preceded in death by her 9 siblings: Lucille Keppler, Ed Ries, Rosie Link, Martha Weidemann, Gilbert Ries, Marie Schmidt, Sally Lucas, Florence Keppler, Elmer Ries.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to: Hospice of Dubuque and Camp Courageous.
