Eleanor C. Walser, 95, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 2752 Shady Lane, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, at the care center.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Center Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

She worked as a secretary/treasurer at Walser Movers Inc.

She was born on July 18, 1907, in Dubuque, daughter of August and Mary (Stockert) Kutsch. She married Herald "Payday" Walser on March 31, 1937, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Clinton, Iowa; he died on Jan. 19, 1971.

Eleanor attended the former Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish, and its rosary society. She was a volunteer for the Mercy Service Club.

Surviving are her daughters, Karen Knutson, of Bloomington, Minn., and Jenelle (Denny) Wiegand, of Dubuque; a son, Bob (Becky) Walser, of Dubuque; nine grandchildren, Mike (Corrine) Wiegand, of Dubuque, Lindy (Tim) Bartels, of Encinitas, Calif., Lisa (Will) Zakas, of Castro Valley, Calif.; Kris (Paul) Cecere, Lakeville, Minn., Kyle Knutson, of Bloomington, Minn., Tracy (Jim) Rowan, Amber Trumm, Beth Walser and Robin Walser, all of Dubuque; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Elvira Kutsch, of Dubuque, and Rita Kutsch, Los Angeles.

She also was preceded in death by a son, James, in 1950; four brothers, Herb, Albert, Leonard and Harold Kutsch; and five sisters, Irene Schmitt, Sabina Lakeman, Ida Kutsch, Genevieve Kutsch and Verna Shanks.

In lieu of flowers, an Eleanor C. Walser Memorial Fund has been established.
