Rev. Daniel Dietz Passes Away

Former Pastor of Lutheran Church of St. Donatus

The Reverend Daniel Dietz passed away Wednesday at his home in Stover, Missouri. Rev. Dietz was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Frederick Dietz and was born in Dubuque on September 5, 1857. His father became pastor of the Lutheran church at St. Donatus in 1861. Daniel was confirmed April 23, 1871, and attended the seminary at Galena and Dubuque. He succeeded his father as pastor of the St. Donatus parish in 1884 and served in that capacity for twenty-seven and one-half years, when he accepted a call to Stover, Missouri, where he served three churches for thirteen years, when he retired from the actice ministry and built a home in Stover.

He was united in marriage with Miss Pauline Ernestine Roiter in 1882 in Missouri and she passed away Sept. 9, 1884. They had one son, Patrick Robert who died when quite young. He is survived by a brother, Rev. Frederick Dietz of Michigan and a sister, Kuniganda Dietz, who made her home with her brother and was a big aid in his ministry.

Rev. Dietz was of a quiet, unassuming nature, and a faithful and efficient pastor. During the many years that he was in charge of the church at St. Donatus he was instrumental in saving many souls and it can be truly said of him: "He has finished his course, he has kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness."

The funeral of Rev. Dietz will take place on Friday at Stover, Missouri, where burial also will be made.
