Alfred A. Manders

Alfred A. Manders, 79, 2634 Pinard St., died Friday morning, April 28, 1995, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Post 6, of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Manders formerly worked at Higley Chemical for 27 years and later at Caradco. He lastly worked at Celotex until his retirement.

He was born on April 6, 1916 in Mosalem Township of Dubuque County, son of Joseph and Regina (Jungers) Manders. He married Lucille Burrows on Oct. 25, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He was a World War II Army veteran and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its holy name society. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing his violin and guitar. He also enjoyed reading and being with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Manders; a daughter, Lisa Marie Manders, of Dubuque; two sons, George A. Manders, of Florida, and Albert J. (and Mary) Manders, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Abraham J., Jane Anne, Isaac J. and Joshua J. Manders, all of Dubuque; two brothers Julius (and Frances) Manders and Clarence (and Leona) Manders, both of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Louis (Bendina) Manders, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marie; two sisters, Veronica Manders and Mrs. Joseph (Sally) Althaus; and three brothers, Arnold, Elmer, and Louis Manders.
