Kenneth H. Dubler

Telegraph Herald -Dec 28, 2003

Kenneth H. Dubler, 83, of San Diego, formerly of Dubuque, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Services will be Wednesday in San Diego, followed by burial of the cremated remains in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. The Featheringill Mortuary, San Diego, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on March 6, 1920. He was raised on a farm in Dubuque, where he learned well the value of hard work.

After serving in World War II, he continued a 20-year military career with the Navy, then went on to earn his master of science degree at San Diego State University. Upon graduating, he returned to government service for another 25 years as an auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency. At night, he taught Accounting 101 at Mesa College. Ken was a busy, hardworking man.

But the greater story is in his family life, for his family was truly this man's work. He and his wife of 62 years, Marie, joined together in their values and raised 12 children to be strong, hardworking individuals. Those kids are now spread across the globe. He was blessed with 32 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

With his wonderful sense of humor, his strong work ethic and his genuine love of people, he set the example of how to live a life filled with great joy and happiness. All who knew this man would describe him as a kind, compassionate, unselfish and happy person, who taught by example the value of giving to others.

If a man's worth is measured by the legacy he leaves, then this man is pure gold. He will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Ken is survived by his sisters, Evelyn Avenarius, Burnette (Earl) Kipp and Darlene Dubler; a brother, Merlyn (Lucille) Dubler; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dad, thank you for always being there for each of us and for teaching us how a good life should be lived. We are now tasked with giving that greatest gift to your grandchildren. May you always find us worthy and may your spirit continue to guide us. We love you forever.
