Mrs. Edward L. (Ramona M. "Monie") Gerhard, 95, of 2290 Shiras Ave., died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at home, with her husband at her side.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a scripture wake service at 8 p.m., and the Secular Franciscans will meet at 3:30 p.m. for the rosary.

Mrs. Gerhard was formerly employed by Royal Typewriter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1908, in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of John H. and Mary Alice (Bullinger) Neyens. She married Edward L. Gerhard on May 3, 1941, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She attended the former Immaculate Conception Academy and Bayless Business College in Dubuque.

She was an active member of Holy Trinity Parish most of her life and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the Secular Franciscans Fraternity and the St. Francis Quilting Circle. Her church was very important to her and she truly lived what her faith taught her.

Ramona loved traveling and enjoyed the beauty and people throughout this wonderful country. She had a great love for her family and friends and this love was returned to her many times over by all who knew her. She was a great lady and a wonderful role model to all of us.

Surviving are her husband, Edward L. Gerhard; two sisters, Grace (Eldon) Strohmeyer and Rita (LaVerne) Strohmeyer, both of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Laura Neyens, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom will love her and miss her forever.

She was reunited in eternity with her parents; and four brothers, Claude, Lester, Julius and Gerald Neyens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1700 Lincoln Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001 and Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care of Ramona and her family.
