William D. "Bill" Cook, 77, of 1607 Lincoln Ave., died at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, as the result of a fall at home on Christmas Eve.

Private family services will be held following cremation. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

Mr. Cook worked in consumer service with Interstate Power Co. for 36 years until his retirement.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1925, in Cresco, Iowa, son of William H. "Doc" and Marie C. "Tina" (Krueger) Cook. He married Kathryn E. "Kay" Wass on Oct. 5, 1950, in Mason City, Iowa.

He served with the Navy from 1945 to 1947, attaining the rank of Quartermaster. He served on the USS Badoeng Strait aircraft carrier when it was commissioned.

He was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Sertoma Club. He was a former member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a member of the Dubuque Electric League and the American Legion Post 6, of Dubuque.

Bill enjoyed photography and woodworking and was an avid sports fan.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn E. "Kay" Cook, of Dubuque; a daughter, Kristine M. (Matthew) Johnson, of Iowa City; two sons, Mark T. (Linda) Cook, of Dubuque, and Alan D. "Skip" (Kim) Cook, of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jennifer (fiance, Ryan TeBockhorst) Haumesser, Jeff (Kathryn) Cook, Lindsay and Tiffany Cook and Kate Johnson; a brother-in-law, John Golembeske, of Fullerton, Calif.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, June Golembeske.

Memorials may be given to Grandview United Methodist Church, 3342 John Wesley Drive, Dubuque, Iowa 52002 and to the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, 3125 West 32nd St., Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
