HOLY CROSS, Iowa -Marcella F. Roling, 90, of Holy Cross, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Zinkula officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.
She was born on Sept. 1, 1913, in Holy Cross, daughter of Leo and Sophia (Oberbroeckling) Ellerbach.
She married Leonard T. Roling on Jan. 5, 1938, in Holy Cross; he preceded her in death in 1992. They farmed in the Holy Cross area until 1961 when they moved to town.
She was a member of the Holy Cross Rosary Society.
Marcella was an avid card player and a fan of the New York Yankees. She loved to work in her flower gardens.
Surviving are six sons, Marvin (Gerri) and Robert (Alice), both of Holy Cross, James (Susie), of Dubuque, and Eugene (Lou Ann), Dennis (Sue) and Gary (Nancy), all of Dyersville; a daughter, Alice (Robert) Weber, of Dyersville; 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Ellerbach, of Holy Cross; a sister, Emma Schultz, of Holy Cross; and a brother-in-law, Ray Brimeyer, of Dubuque.
She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta Henkels, Agatha Roling and Alvina Brimeyer; a brother, Francis "Fritz" Ellerbach; a great-granddaughter, Courtney Roling; and a great-great-granddaughter, Alonna Steffen.
Thank-you to the staffs of Heritage Manor, Oak Crest Manor and Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville for all of their care and concern for Marcella and our family.
