Gordon C. "Gordy" Oglesby, 66, of 1217 Lincoln Ave., died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at home, surrounded by his family, following a short battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Oglesby was employed at the former Dubuque Packing Co., then F.D.L. Foods, Inc., and finally Farmland Foods, Inc. for 40 years, retiring in 1999.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1937, in Iowa City, son of Clarence and Catherine (Huber) Oglesby. He married Carol A. Reisch on May 16, 1964, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 150A.

Gordy loved being outdoors in the sun. He was an avid flower gardener and was very proud of his yard. Gordy loved all the seasons, enjoying the snowy winters as well as the hot summers. You could find him outdoors most any time of the day, especially since his retirement.

Gordy was a "people person" who always had time for everyone and they returned that friendship. He was the "weatherman" for anyone who asked.

He was so proud of his children and five grandchildren and was with them on a daily basis.

Gordy's favorite holiday was Christmas, and he enjoyed all the sights and sounds of the season. He was blessed to be called "home" for Christmas.

Surviving are his wife, Carol A. Oglesby; two daughters, Jayne M. (Jeff) Duve, of Dubuque, and their children, Emily and Nicholas; and Julie K. Oglesby, at home; three sons, Jim A. (Pam) Oglesby, of Des Moines, and their daughters, Samantha and Alexandra; Joe J. (Jill) Oglesby, of Dubuque, and their son, Porter; and Jason R. Oglesby, of Dubuque; five sisters, Darlene Oglesby, Mary Oglesby, Margaret Oglesby and Patsy Arensdorf, all of Dubuque, and Marilyn Thomas, of Grand Junction, Colo.; and seven brothers, Harry (Ann) Oglesby, Larry (Shirley) Oglesby, Frank Oglesby and John Oglesby, all of Dubuque, Bill Oglesby, of Platteville, Wis., Bob Oglesby, of Hazel Green, Wis., and Richard Oglesby, of Carriere, Miss.

The family wishes to thank the Wendt Regional Cancer Center, Medical Associates Oncology Department and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and concern for Gordy.
