CASCADE, Iowa - Violet S. Leytem, 83, of 212 Tyler St. SE, Cascade, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, following a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Joseph Wolfe officiating and Rev. Daniel Krapfl concelebrating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Leytem taught school in the rural Worthington (Iowa) schools. She worked at Ensign Coil in Cascade and later worked as a waitress at the old Narrow Gauge restaurant.

She was born on March 22, 1920, in Worthington, daughter of Nicholas and Apollonia (Sauser) Wolfe. She married Donald Leytem on July 11, 1942, at St. Dominic's in San Francisco.

She was a graduate of the former St. Paul's High School in Worthington. She also attended the University of Dubuque, where she received her teaching degree.

She was a member of St. Matthias Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Leytem, of Cascade; two daughters, Lee Ann Leytem, of Cascade, and Susan Ann (James) Roling, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Michelle Roling and Brian Roling, both of Dubuque, Cathy Roling, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Diane Roling, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two brothers, Nick (Rose) Wolfe, of Cascade, and Robert (Pat) Wolfe, of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Donna Wolfe, of Worthington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Graff and Kay Hess; and four brothers, Ernest, Harold, Richard and Edgar "Ted" Wolfe.

A Violet S. Leytem Memorial Fund has been established.
