Richard J. Lewandowski, 78, of 2360 Chaney Road, Dubuque, formerly of Milwaukee, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 5:30 p.m.

Mr. Lewandowski retired in 1985 from General Electric Medical Systems, Milwaukee, where his last position was manager, plant facilities and services.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1924, in Milwaukee, son of Edward and Bridget (Komorowski) Lewandowski. He married Jeanette Smith on Sept. 12, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He served in the Army during World War II in New Guinea. He later attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, majoring in mechanical engineering.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette; a daughter, Ann Burns, of Atlanta; a son, Steven Lewandowski, of San Diego; two grandsons, Joe and Jeffrey Snyder; a brother, Robert (Gloria) Lewandowski, of Milwaukee; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert Beecher, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
