DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Lawrence J. Deppe, 75, of Dyersville, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a sudden illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Monsignor Ed Petty officiating. Burial will be in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Petersburg. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m., a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 5 p.m., and the Farley Fire Department will gather at 7 p.m.

Mr. Deppe farmed in the Petersburg (Iowa) area until retirement in 1989.

He was born on April 20, 1928, in Petersburg, son of Clem and Frances (Weber) Deppe.

He married Helen Wedewer on Dec. 27, 1949, in New Vienna; she preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 1987. He later married Norma (Tegeler) Platz on July 5, 1996, in Dyersville.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1734 and the 4th Degree Dubourg Assembly.

He enjoyed his daily card playing, relaxing on his deck and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Norma; two sons, Steve (Mary), of Peosta, and Pat (Joan), of Dyersville; four daughters, Linda Fangmann, Becky (Don) Maiers and Bev (Dan) Clemen, all of Dyersville, and Sharon (Chris) Klaren, of Waterloo; two stepsons, David (Jill) Platz, of Broomfield, Colo., and Dr. William Platz, of Lexington, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Diane (Dan) Lassiter, of Manchester, Ga., and Julie (Chad) Holt, of West Des Moines; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Rosie) Deppe, of Manchester; and five sisters, Adella (Donald) Helle, of Dyersville, Bertha (George) Klas, of New Vienna, Gladys Schemmel, of Monticello, and Hilda (Melvin) Reittinger and Sr. Agnes Ann (Julitta) Deppe, O.S.F., both of Dubuque.
