Andrew J. Huff

Andrew J. "Andy" Huff, 70, of Tipton, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Mercy Hospice House, Hiawatha after a brief bout with cancer.

Visitation was Sunday, May 5, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Services were at Monday, May 6, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley.

Andrew was born Sept. 15, 1942, in Algona, the son of John V. and Ethel (Baker) Huff of Wesley. He began his career in the health care industry as an X-Ray Tech in Iowa Falls. From there he became the hospital administrator at Guttenberg from 1973 - 1982, and Oelwein from 1982 - 1991 where he gained experience in facilities management and expansion. In 1992, he became a Senior VP of Facilities at the then St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo. He was instrumental in the merger of St. Francis and Schoitz Hospitals into what is now Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Some of his favorite pastimes were being with his family and especially his grandchildren, attending Hawkeye football games and feeding the birds.

Survivors include his children, John (Paula) Huff of Amana and Kay (Tom) King of Dyersville; his "beloved sidekick", Bethany Newnum of Tipton; two grandchildren, Andrea "Andi" and Sam King, who affectionately referred to him as "Bonka"; one brother, Lyle (Ramona) Huff of Boone; a sister-in-law, Bev Huff of Algona; the mother of his children, Jan Huff-Alexander of Jesup, and her mother, Ellen Anderson of Ames; brothers and sisters-in-law, Karen (Gary) Van Buskirk, Diane (Virgil) Goodrich, Mary (Adonis) Kassinos and Jane (Brian) Hurd.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gene.

Memorials are preferred to Beckman Catholic High School Music and Drama Departments.
