CASCADE, Iowa - Carl J. Neiers, 96, of 521 Second Ave. SW, Cascade, died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, as the result of injuries sustained in a pedestrian/motor vehicle accident.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Daniel Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Neiers worked at A.Y. McDonald Mfg. Co. in Dubuque, until his retirement in 1972.

He was born on March 15, 1907, in Cascade, son of Michael and Augusta (Gehl) Neiers. He married Marie Marbach on Oct. 1, 1934, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington; she preceded him in death on May 31, 1996.

He received his education in the Cascade area schools and was a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School in Cascade.

He was a retired volunteer of the Cascade Fire Department. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade.

Surviving are two sons, Carl (Doris) Neiers, Jr., of Guttenberg, and Michael Neiers, of Anamosa; a daughter, Joan M. Kauder, of Cascade; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Harold (Mary) Neiers and Fred (Mary) Neiers, both of Cascade.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kris Kauder; a son-in-law, Fred Kauder; a sister, Helen Neiers; and a brother, Gene Neiers.

A Carl J. Neiers Memorial Fund has been established.
