Carl B. Breitbach, 71, of 3625 Keymeer Drive, formerly of Epworth, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Resurrection Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Epworth, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 650, of Epworth. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Breitbach worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for more than 28 years, retiring in 1982.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1931, in Peosta, Iowa, son of Henry and Mary Lavina (English) Breitbach. He married the former Joan Hannan on Oct. 1, 1953, in Rickardsville, Iowa; she passed away on July 10, 1969.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 650, of Epworth.

Playing cards, golfing, bowling and playing baseball were some of Carl's favorite pastimes. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren participate in their various activities.

Surviving are his children, Terry (Ann) Breitbach, of Dubuque, and their children, Ted and Alyssa; Tim (Jill) Breitbach, of Urbandale, Iowa, and their children, Michael and Patrick; Tom Breitbach, of Dubuque; and Tami (Dan) Conzett, of Dubuque, and their children, Mandi and Kyle; two sisters, Eileen Dardis and Jean Steger, both of Dubuque; two brothers, Glenn (Edna) Breitbach, of Dubuque, and Howard (Helen) Breitbach, of Rickardsville; four sisters-in-law, Moya Breitbach, of Dubuque, Betty Schmitt, of Guttenberg, Iowa, Shirley McCloy, of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Karen Oberfoell, of Sherrill, Iowa; Carl's former wife and still friend, Dianne, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Teddy, in infancy; three brothers, Ralph "PeeWee," John "Jack" and Donald "Fritz;" and two sisters, Helen and Madelin.

Carl's family wishes to thank all those who cared for him over the years.
