Mrs. Ziel worked as a butter processor at the Kraft Co. for 25 years, until her retirement.

She was born on April 27, 1912, in Dubuque, daughter of Jacob J. and Mary B. (Noel) Graff. She married Raymond H. Ziel on Aug. 24, 1937, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1997.

She was a member of Nativity Parish. She and Ray were longtime members of the Northend Gun Club and enjoyed socializing with their friends.

She was an avid card player and bingo player and a crossword puzzle "expert."

Dorothy had a very strong will to live, as evidenced by her 91 years. She especially enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia L. "Pat" (Jack) Haas, of Hales Corners, Wis., and Judy A. Miller, of Dubuque; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marian Uthe, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Walter "Skip" Uthe.

In lieu of flowers, a Dorothy E. Ziel Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank Ennoble Manor for the loving care and concern for Dorothy.
