Mrs. Joseph (Myrt M.) Deckert, 80, of 1967 Garfield Ave., died Friday evening, Nov. 21, 2003, at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Deckert worked at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring in 1981.

She was born on May 1, 1923, in Rushmore, Minn., daughter of George and Josephine (Schmit) Gabel. She married Joseph H. Deckert on July 20, 1944, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She graduated from Merrill (Iowa) High School in 1940. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish.

She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Myrt enjoyed boating, fishing and camping.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph Deckert; a daughter, Peach Westemeier, of Dubuque; three sons, Tom (Pam) Deckert, of Fort Washington, Md., Joe (special friend, Lori Graves) Deckert, of East Dubuque, Ill., and Dick (Joann) Deckert, of Benton, Wis.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Shireman, Delores Ryan and Marlene (Gerald) Hird, all of Dubuque, and Mary (Bob) Hingtgen, of East Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Mary (Don) Schlader, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Sheryl Kruse.

A Myrt M. Deckert Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Dr. John Viner and his nurse, Ann, Dr. David Zenk, Dr. Mary Klix, Judy from the Oncology Department, and the people of Hospice of Dubuque, especially Rose G.
