EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. -Ralph E. Bauman, 65, of 205 Thomas Avenue, East Dubuque, died at 6:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, with his family at his side

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque. Burial will be in Dunleith Township Cemetery, East Dubuque, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion, East Dubuque Post 787. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 8:30 p.m.

Mr. Bauman worked as a mechanic at the Dubuque Marina. He later owned and operated the University 76 Service Station on University Avenue in Dubuque for 10 years (1968-1978). He was most recently employed at the former Interstate Power Company in Dubuque for 20 years until his retirement in 1998.

Ralph was born on Aug. 21, 1938, in Dubuque, son of Clarence C. and Helen G. "Pat" (Edwards) Bauman. He married Daisy Walleser on Feb. 13, 1965, at Sacred Heart Church, in DeSoto, Wis.

He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1960.

Ralph was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, and assisted with the CCD program. He was very involved with the CEW Community at St. Mary's.

Ralph was a member of the Menominee-Dunleith Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He was also a long time member of the Dubuque Boat Club and an avid fisherman. Ralph was a "jack-of-all-trades and master of many." He could fix anything if given the time.

He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was always there for his family and delighted in being with them. Ralph knew how to be a friend and was always ready and willing to help anyone.

Surviving are his wife, Daisy Bauman; two daughters, Anna M. Bauman-Francois, of Lawton, Okla., and Rebecca S. "Becky" Bauman, of Iowa City; four sons, Ralph Michael (Mary) Bauman, of Neenah, Wis., Timothy J. Bauman (fiance, Christina M. Hogue), of Galena, Ill., Joseph C. (Rebecca L.) Bauman, of Wilton, Iowa, and Anthony J. "Tony" Bauman, of East Dubuque; four grandchildren, Landon Francois, Jordan, Brittany and Mikayla Bauman; two sisters, Rita M. Singh and Ruby K. (Gary) Berg, both of Dubuque, his mother and father-in-law, Stanley and Velma Walleser, of DeSoto, Wis., and many other loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Mastan Singh.

Memorials may be given to Stonehill Franciscan Services, 3485 Windsor Avenue, Dubuque.
