John C. McGhee, Sr.

John C. McGhee, Sr., 77, of Milledgeville, Ga., formerly of Dubuque, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Macon, Ga. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at 193 County Line Church Road, Milledgeville. The Moores Funeral Home, Milledgeville, is in charge of arrangements. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, provided the information.

He was born on Sept. 9, 1926, in Dubuque. He worked for his father at his farm store in Dubuque after being discharged from the Air Corps in 1946. He also worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for six years.

After moving his family to Madison, Wis., in 1967, he worked at Badger Ammo Plant, Bucaloo, Wis., as engineering manager for six years. He moved to Milledgeville in 1974, and went into general contracting. In 1982, he took an evening management position at the Rheem Plant. During that time, he attended Georgia College and earned a bachelor of science degree and a master of science degree in psychology. He then worked as a psychotherapist at River Edge Center, Macon, for 12 years. He retired in 1999.

Surviving are his wife, Carol; a sister, Mary Pickart, of Gulf Port, Fla.; a brother, David McGhee, of Dubuque; nine children, James M. McGhee, of Hollandale, Wis., Thomas P. McGhee and Joseph P. McGhee, both of Madison, Constance J. McGhee, of Santa Fe, N.M., Mary Kellor, of Verona, Wis., Michael V. McGhee, of Mount Horeb, Wis., Joan Breckenridge, of Tucson, Ariz., John, Jr., of Milledgeville, and Jeanne A. Short, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton L. McGhee; and his mother, Ann C. (Wunderlick) McGhee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Covenant House, 346 W. 17th St., New York, N.Y. 10011-5002.
