Joseph W. Kohl, 37, of 2117 Kniest St., died of natural causes at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

Mr. Kohl was formerly employed as a bartender at the Triple T Tavern in Shullsburg, Wis., and was lastly employed in shipping at Swiss Colony.

He was born on Dec. 24, 1965, in Dubuque, son of William L. Jr. and Lilijean N. (Miller) Kohl.

He was a graduate of Western Dubuque High School and served in the Army for two years.

Joe was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. In his spare time, he loved playing with his nieces and nephews.

Surviving are his mother, Lili-jean N. Kohl, of Dubuque; his father, William L. (JoAnn) Kohl, Jr., of Shullsburg; five sisters, Tammy J. (Jere) Gardner and Tina M. (Terry) Kohl, both of Dubuque, Jolene M. Stietz, of Madison, Wis., and Jill J. Stietz and Janet M. Stietz, both of Shullsburg; two brothers, Henry J. (Francine) Kohl, of Harlingen, Texas, and Justin J. Kohl, of Shullsburg; his godson, Timothy Rouse; his "foster" father, Leo Gansen, Sr., of Epworth, Iowa; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joe and June Miller and William, Sr. and Eleanor Kohl; and his "foster" mother, Shirley Gansen.

A Joseph W. Kohl Memorial Fund has been established.
