Charles L. Opperman, 68, of 2115 Clarke Drive, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, Ill.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where friends may call from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque.

Mr. Opperman was an electrician for 39 years, retiring in 1998.

He was born on Sept. 8, 1935, in Guttenburg, Iowa, son of Earl and Lovila (Olson) Opperman. He married the former Dot Tidmore on Feb. 2, 1957, in Coco, Fla.

Charles had been a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker's Union Local 704 since 1959. He also was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was an avid fisherman and gardener.

Surviving are his wife, Dot, of Dubuque; three sons, Charles J. (Suzanne) Opperman, of Wauconda, Ill., Jon (Dr. Mary White) Opperman, of Rockford, and Major Jeffrey (Julie) Opperman, of Richmond Hill, Ga.; a sister, Donna Rogan, of Dubuque; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
