DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Victor A. Meier, 83, of Dyersville, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at home, after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Ray Atwood officiating and Monsignor Ed Petty concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 137. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1919, in Luxemburg, son of John H. and Rose (Brunsman) Meier. He moved to Eagle Center at the age of 7.

He served in the Navy four years, from 1942 to 1945.

He married Pearl Bockenstedt on Feb. 6, 1946, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Petersburg. Together they farmed south of Waterloo for one year, then moved northeast of Manchester for 38 years until retiring in Dyersville in 1984.

During his farming years, his dairy herd was his life. After retirement, his grandchildren were his life. They loved him and he loved them dearly, and they enjoyed each others' company.

Surviving are his wife, Pearl; a son, Robert (Linda) Meier, of Cuyahoga Fall, Ohio; four daughters, Patricia Meier, of Spring Lake, Mich., Constance (Jim) Cade, of Urbandale, Joyce (Tom) Fredrick, of Greenfield, Mass., and Janet (Steve) Domeyer, of Dubuque; six granddaughters, Anne Meier, Sarah Cade, Laura and Victoria Fredrick, and Amy and Emily Domeyer; two grandsons, Tim (Charlotte) Meier and Matt Domeyer; a step grandson, Austin Kness; a great-granddaughter, Krista Meier; two brothers, Edward Meier, of Milan, Ill., and Othmar (Dorothy) Meier, of LaPorte City; four sisters, Marie Rottinghaus, of Eagle Center, Clara Guynn and Agnes (Earl) Youngblut, both of LaPorte City, and Anne (Larry) Bussman, of Spring Valley, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Fredrick.
