Joseph P. MacInerney, 82, of 247 W. 11th St., formerly of 257 E. 12th St., died at 5:10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. MacInerney was formerly employed as a tool and die maker at Unique Balance in Dubuque.

He was born on March 16, 1921, in Dubuque, son of James and Mary (Casey) MacInerney. He married Josephine C. Scardino on May 27, 1948, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; she died on Dec. 14, 1988.

He served with the Army during World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern campaigns.

He was a member of St. Mary's Parish and the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6.

Joe enjoyed watching baseball and was a Cubs fan. He looked forward to being with his family and playing games with his children and grandchildren. He had a strong faith and often read his Bible.

Surviving are four sons, Patrick J. MacInerney and Terrance J. MacInerney, both of Dubuque, Michael A. (Mary-Ann) MacInerney, of Heidelberg, Germany, and James K. (Diane) MacInerney, of Peosta, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Michael "Frank" MacInerney, of Greeley, Colo.

He also was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Thomas (Marietta) Fairfield; and two brothers, Charles "C.J." MacInerney and John MacInerney.
