Thomas A. Simon, 80, of 2685 Chaney Road, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at home of an apparent heart attack.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West Iowa, where full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque, Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Simon was a lieutenant with the Dubuque Fire Department, retiring in 1977. Upon his retirement, he worked for Myers-Cox.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1923, in Dubuque, son of Anthony and Bernice (Kelly) Simon. He married Margaret Mary Carew on July 5, 1947, at Nativity Catholic Church.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. He served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Simon, of Dubuque; six children, Kay (Tim) McAleece, of Toronto, Ontario, Ann (Larry) Fautsch, of Dubuque, Richard Simon, Paul (Wendy) Simon, Martha (Don) Pesek, all of Omaha, Neb. and Mark (Anne) Simon, of Dallas; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Simon; nine grandchildren, Christine Simon, Timmy (Katrina) McAleece, Sara McAleece, Katie McAleece, Bradley Fautsch, David Fautsch, Brittany Simon, Nicklaus Pesek, and Katie Pesek; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Thomas; two brothers, Vern Simon and David (Sue) Simon; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Simon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Ellen and Tom; and a brother, Jack Simon.
