James Frederick Rederus, 67, of Santa Ana, Calif., formerly of Dubuque, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at home, of an apparent heart attack.

Burial was in Fairhaven Memorial Park, Santa Ana.

Mr. Rederus was born in Dubuque, the son of Frederick O. and Vera Wall Rederus.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1954. He attended Iowa State University and graduated from the University of Dubuque with a math degree.

His exceptional abilities in mathematics gained him entry into the newly developing arena of computer science. He was one of the innovators who developed systems and programs for numerous companies related to space exploration and technology

He was also one of the "think tank" generation, whose keen mind was capitalized upon to solve problems in systems operations. He worked for Systems Development Corporations, Santa Monica, Calif., Technical Operations, Washington D.C. and for the Pentagon.

He moved to Santa Ana in 1994 to be close to his sister and nephew.

Surviving are his sister, Susan Rederus; and a nephew, Austin Rederus Chamberlain.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
