Clarence A. Bettcher

Clarence A. Bettcher, 68, of 2246 Jackson Street, died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at home surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Bettcher worked as a milkman for the Brookside Dairy for nine years. He worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 35 years until his retirement.

He was born on May 12, 1935, in Dubuque, son of Reynold and Agnes (Mettille) Bettcher. He married Elsie Hudson on Nov. 20, 1954, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

Clarence was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was also a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 150A.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Tri-State Bass Club. He was a Green Bay Packer fan and an avid, but sad, Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving are his very special friend of 25 years, Helen Schwartz, of Dubuque, a daughter, Dawn M. (Raymond, Jr.) Stuart, of Dubuque; three sons, Steven F. (Bev) Bettcher, Jeffrey L. (Tami) Bettcher, both of Dubuque and Michael C. (Karen) Bettcher, of DeWitt, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild; his extended family, Helen's children, Linda M. (Kevin) Sime, of Madison, Wis., Don A. (Lisa) Schwartz, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dean E. (Jane) Schwartz, Jeff L. Schwartz (Fiancee, Tina Krier), all of Dubuque; his former wife, Elsie Peters, of Dubuque; four sisters, Dolores (Ed) Correll, of East Dubuque, Ill., Katy (Melvin) Deutmeyer, Judy (Tom) Bauer, both of Dubuque, Linda Bettcher, of Omaha, Neb.; five brothers, Roy (Jeanette) Bettcher, Milton Bettcher, Willie (Darlene) Bettcher, Les (Sue) Bettcher, all of Dubuque and Buck (Janice) Bettcher, of Sherrill, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta (Harry) Williams.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002
