PETERSBURG, Iowa - Mrs. Marie Budden, 63, of Petersburg, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, after a long, courageous battle against ovarian cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Petersburg, with the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where the Altar and Rosary Society rosary will be recited at 4 p.m., and the parish scripture service will be recited at 7 p.m.

She was born on July 19, 1940, in Farley, daughter of Emmet M. and Kathleen E. (Urbain) Simon. She married Robert J. Budden on July 19, 1960, at St. John's Catholic Church, Placid, rural Epworth.

Marie attended Carr Country School and St. Martin's High School in Cascade.

She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Jim Beam Five Seasons Club. Marie was a HUGE lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved the Christmas season.

Surviving are her husband, Robert, of Petersburg; four daughters, Jackie (Lowell) Crouse, of Maxwell, Jo (Tom) Batterton and Jill Whitsell, both of Petersburg, and Joy (Brian) Pealer, of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren, Justin, Jake and Lanie Crouse, of Maxwell, Megan and Ashley Batterton and Rob, Nick, Ally and Abby Whitsell, all of Petersburg, and Josh, Danny, Matt and Elizabeth Pealer, of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Doris (Steve) McElmeel, of Lisbon, Jeanette (Paul) Kremer, of Epworth, Marian (Dave) Armstrong, of Livingston, Mont., and Lucy Sutherland, of Cascade; five brothers, Loras Simon (Mary Ann McGrane) and Lee (Connie) Simon, both of Bernard, Matt (Jean) Simon and Tom (Sherry) Simon, both of Cascade, and Irwin (Luann) Simon, of Farley; her in-laws, Judy Simon, of Peosta, Donald and Rachel Budden and Rick and Darla Budden, all of Petersburg, and Toots and Dick Reittinger, of Dyersville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Merlin Simon.
