John B. O'Meara

Mr. John B. "Pete" O'Meara, 64, of 14330 Old Highway Road, died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a parish Christian wake service at 4 p.m.

Mr. O'Meara owned and operated O'Meara Trucking Co. for many years prior to retiring in 1995.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1939, in Dubuque, son of John and Marie (Ginte) O'Meara. He married Del Rose Schemmel on Sept. 23, 1961, at St. Philomena's Catholic Church, Asbury, Iowa.

He grew up in Dubuque, and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1956. He was a Navy veteran.

He loved Irish music, NASCAR racing and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Raphael's Cathedral.

Surviving are his wife, Del Rose O'Meara, of Dubuque; two sons, John (Ronda) O'Meara, of Peosta, and Joe (Dawne) O'Meara, of Durango, Iowa; a brother, Robert (Joyce) O'Meara, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Shannan and Steve O'Meara and Josh and Monica Habel; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, James Matthew, in infancy.

A John B. O'Meara Memorial Fund has been established by the family.
