Sister Elizabeth Marie (Mary Engratia) Mahan, BVM

Sister Elizabeth Marie (Mary Engratia) Mahan, BVM, 98, of Marian Hall, 1050 Carmel Drive, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Marian Hall.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Marian Hall Chapel. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Elizabeth Marie taught in elementary schools in Butte, Mont.; Chicago and Lincoln, Ill.; Des Moines; Omaha, Neb.; and Kauai, Hawaii. She also served on staff at the Mount Carmel Motherhouse.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1904, in Graettinger, Iowa, daughter of James L. and Catherine (Graettinger) Mahan.

She made her first profession of religious vows on Aug. 15, 1931, and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1937.

Surviving are a brother, Paul Munson, of Emmetsburg, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with whom she shared life for 74 years.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM, Retirement Fund.
